WHERE AND WHEN
Vila Nova de Famalicão
EYMW 2020 will take place in Vila Nova de Famalicão, a picturesque city in the north of Portugal that takes great pride in its cultural offering, heritage and variety of cultural venues. During the week you will have an opportunity to engage with local musicians, performing in different venues of this wonderful region.
Saturday 25 July - check in between 15:00 and 18:00 at the accommodation venue. A bus will depart at 18:00 to take everyone to the first rehearsal.
Sunday 2 August - the course officially finishes at 09:00, after breakfast at the accommodation venue. However, participants can leave the course earlier that day, to suit their travel arrangements, if they wish.

The Fundação Castro Alves is a popular arts centre and musical school. The complex is ideally suited for our course with large rehearsal spaces, chamber music rooms, a chill-out area and even a local park.
Youth Hostel - Pousada de Juventude, Guimarães

This 'up-market’ youth hostel is situated in the centre of Guimarães, a short distance from the rehearsal venue. Guimarães is considered to be the birthplace of Portugal and is a World Heritage Site. You can explore this medieval well-preserved city that possesses a fine 10th century castle and discover its unique charm. We will have sole use of the youth hostel and all of its facilities.
Travel costs are not included in the course fees and participants will need to make their own travel arrangements.
An online form will be sent to you approximately one month before the course so you can let us know your travel arrangements. Any queries or requests regarding travel can be raised via this form.
You can book flights from your nearest European City to Porto Airport.
To travel by coach from the airport, participants must arrive before 15:00 on Saturday 25 July to be met by a member of EYMW staff who will accompany you on the coach journey to Guimarães.
The course finishes at 09:00 at the accommodation venue, after breakfast. Staff will accompany participants back to the airport on a coach that will leave at 9:00. It is recommended that flights are booked no earlier than 13:00.
If you wish to travel by train to the venue, you can travel to Guimarães Train Station on Saturday 25 July via the main train network. We will collect you from the train station if you supply us with arrival times via the form that will be sent to you before the course.
Registration will be held at the accommodation venue.

There are many different musical and social activities at EYMW! Each day is slightly different, but a typical day would have the following schedule:
Travel to rehearsal venue
Wind & Brass/Strings
Travel to accommodation venue
Enjoyment of the World Heritage Site of Guimaraes and the accommodation facilities.
Social activities include:
On site nightly bar (serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks)
One afternoon trip to Porto
NEW for 2020 - a Chamber Music Concert Tour day, performing to local communities.
At the end of the day there will be an additional Community Concert where performing groups from the surrounding communities join the course participants in an evening concert.
In the Chamber Music Concert Tour, participants are encouraged to perform a movement of standard classical repertoire, or their own composition or improvisation.
The Abschluss Concert - Saturday 1 August 2019 - 20:30 - Free of charge
Friends and family are warmly invited to this open event.
The Abschluss Concert evening is where participants showcase the music they have prepared during the course.
Concert venue: Parque da Devesa - a 1000 seat outdoor auditorium (pictured above).
This 27-hectare public park was only inaugurated in 2012, having been in the pipeline for almost 25 years. It’s worth a wander and a picnic on a sunny day and has extensive grassy areas mingling with poplar, oak, cork oak, pine and willow trees. The park contains a stretch of the Pelhe River. The profusion of water has already made the park a haven for birds, with more than 60 species registered here. Nearby the concert venue you can also visit the Territorial House, displaying much of the city's history and heritage.

Accommodation for the week - shared rooms between 2 to 6 people.
All meals (except during the visit to Porto)
Tea, coffee and fruits during the breaks each day
All musical activities and rehearsals
Afternoon trip to Porto, which includes all travel costs
Travel between the accommodation, rehearsal and concert venues
All evening social activities
The course cost does not include travel to the accommodation venue for arrivals and departures, except the provided coach travel to and from Porto airport at the scheduled times.
Places are issued on a first-come first-served basis, subject to the applicant being deemed the correct standard to play the repertoire.
Places will not be confirmed until a non-refundable deposit of 100 EUROS is received.
If you are successful in your application and your deposit is received, the remaining balance will be invoiced and due before the end of May 2020.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
Three meals a day will be included in the cost of the course alongside regular tea and coffee breaks. However, you might want to bring snacks with you for throughout the day and a bottle of water for rehearsals.
You will need to bring your own towels, toiletries, shampoo, body wash, straighteners, hairdryer etc. All bedding is provided and rooms / bathrooms will have a mirror for you to use.
Daily dress is casual, so bring comfortable clothes for rehearsals. Please bring smart clothes for our final performance. You will also be able to order an exclusive EYMW course t-shirt that you may wish to wear in the concert.
There will be the opportunity to explore near the accommodation venues and around Porto during our visit. Please remember to bring money to the course for shopping, snacks, the evening bar, purchasing an exclusive EYMW 2020 t-shirt, food during the afternoon trip to Porto and your own travel arrangements.
The venues have limited Wi-Fi coverage.
